At the studio

The artist's space is almost solitary, except for the presence of the multiple evolving works that fill its walls. In contrast to the silence of the studio, her painting is not always calm.
At times, it is full of visual noise, even turbulent. Gabaskallás's constructions are not immediate. It can take weeks or months for her painting to be resolved.
Revisiting the same painting repeatedly, interfering with details or the central figure of interest, is quite common.
The work remains open, which can lead to changes that destabilize the initial plan.

"There's always a self-imposed expectation in painting. The perception that additional information is needed is constant. As if the final result were just around the corner.”
